What could be a  better pick me up color than an Orange Lipstick ...

Recently I bought this Inglot Freedom System Lipstick Refill No. 37 on recommendation of a friend. 

I am a big pink (fuschia, berry, plums, rose pink etc)  lipstick hoarder, n second color I gravitate towards is n*de browns. And I only owned  one red color and one coral lipstick. It took lot of guts and encouragement from friends ( and obviously a very reasonable price tag) to pick this shade.

Product Review - Aloe Veda - Mild Nourishing Shampoo

Hi Friends,

With temperatures rising and increased sweating, we all feel the requirement of washing our hair more frequently. As for me, I am regular at working out so I like to wash my hair after every workout session. Due to this I am on a constant hunt for a mild shampoo which can be used after my workout sessions.

I recently tried Aloe Veda - Mild Nourishing Shampoo.

What Aloe Veda says:

A very basic transparent Plastic bottle with screw cap, which flip opens at top.

 

 

Product: 

Shampoo has runny consistency and is almost transparent in color with slight yellow tinge. Fragrance is floral but little artificial, although is soft nothing bothersome. 

Price : INR 130 for 200 ml

My Experience:

My hair is quite dry with slightly oily scalp. My hair is thin and gets frizzy because of humid weather conditions. I require a shampoo which can clean my sweaty/ oily scalp ( post workout hygiene), without either drying out or leaving my hair flat.

This shampoo has a very mild pleasing fragrance. Only little amount is required to lather up the hair.  It takes away all the oil and sweat from my hair. Only one wash is enough to get rid of the greasiness caused by sweating. It washes off hair oil easily too. The hair feels clean after wash but I will not call that squeaky clean feel. The oiliness stays at bay for complete two days. The most important part was that I didnt get any major hairfall during or after the shampoo.

Okay, now coming on not so good part. This shampoo dries up my already dry hair. I have to follow it with a heavy conditioner. If I leave my hair without hair conditioner they will get frizzy and dry and will tangle. Despite of as much as I detangle my hair , they will again get tangled quickly. Result was dry looking, frizzy tangled hair.

With Conditioner, the shampoo still behaves better. But I still dislike the fact that it strips my hair of all the natural moisture.

Pros:

Removes oil and dirt,

Lathers well,

Requires a small quantity,

Good for oily hair,

No major hairfall,

Pleasant Fragrance. 

Cons:

Borderline Cheap packaging,

SLES - 50% (its not natural)

Dries out dry hair,

Not a very clean feeling after wash.

Non Conditioning.

Last Words : First of all, It NOT a natural, chemical free product. With that much SLES present I wonder if it can be considered as a MILD shampoo. Can be good for very oily hair but not so good for dry hair. As for me, My search for a mild everyday shampoo is still on.

Product Review - NYX Mega Shine Lip Gloss in Lollipop 111

Hi Girls,

Continuing with my series in NYX Mega Shine Lip Gloss, my next lip gloss is Lollipop. Fun color as is the name.

Color : Orange with silver shimmer. NYX  has made its mark in the lip gloss category. Lollipop is one another color which speaks quality. Its a very pretty semi opaque orange color. 

This comes out a little coral on my lips. My lips are very pink/ red, It can actually be a taboo at times. The colors like this don't come out true to its color. But this doesn't takes away from the beauty of this color. 

Shimmer is finely milled and infuses with lips, doesn't looks chunky and glittery. 

It color looks pretty on any skin tone who loves to wear orange color.

Product Review - NYX Mega Shine Lip Gloss - Gold Pink

Couple of days back I wrote a post about NYX Mega Shine Lip Gloss in Natural. This post is an extension of that article. Here I am sharing a second color in that same brand - GOLD PINK 131.

Color : 

Very soft pink with slight blue undertone and finely milled golden shimmer. I have medium tan olive skin (NC 40-42), on me it looks like a soft baby pink color if worn alone or with a n*de lipstick. The shimmer is very finely milled. One can notice the shine but not the sparkle. 

This color almost suits all skin complexions On fairer complexion this color will look very pretty as more pink will show up. On duskier skin tones the golden sparkle will add more sheen to the lips.

Bobbi Brown Corrector in Peach - Product Review

Blessed are the people who don’t have to worry about the darkness under their eyes. And for rest of us there are Correctors.

As I discussed in a post regarding correctors, Peach, Salmon, Bisque or Apricot (or even Pink) are used to mask the under eye darkness. One of the most raved about products in this category is Bobbi Brown Correctors.

Sleek black colored flip on tub with a mirror and the logo is inscribed with white.

Product 

These have very creamy soft texture but edging towards being tacky. In summer or hotter weather conditions it becomes very creamy and in colder weather it is a little tacky. These are thick and have opaque coverage. A little goes a long way. Despite of being thick they don’t tuck or pull the skin. They blend super easily and give a very full coverage. These hide almost all the darkness instantaneously without much product. It really brighten ups the whole undereye area.

Corrector in Color Peach

These are available in 16 different shades, from Porcelain Bisque to Very Deep Bisque. They cover entire possible skin color range. There is one shade for every skin color. For me my HG color is Peach. It is best color suited for people in my skin color range, warm medium tan, MAC NC 40-42. I would recommend trying them first before making a purchase, if possible.

Price

$ 23 for 0.05 oz, Although the given quantity is very small , but a little goes a long way, I have been using this from last 1.5 years and have hardly made a dent in it.  You need very small amount of product to do the job.

Application

Moisturizing under eye area is recommended prior using the product. Brush or ring finger can be used to apply the product on under eye. Then the best way to blend is by using warmth of finger tip and patting the product into the skin. Apply it close to lash line and on the inner corner of the eyes. This is followed by using a concealer on top of it. I like applying corrector and concealer before applying foundation. This is because I never get a concealer of the exact same match as my foundation, applying it before foundation gives more even look to the face and eye area. (If you have a concealer which is exactly the same shade of your foundation you can go ahead and apply it after the foundation). Setting the concealer is the next step. Apply a transparent / yellow tone powder to set the concealer and prevent creasing. I personally like using yellow toned powder for added coverage. I use a fluffly blending brush to this step.

Coverage and overall effectiveness 

This product does an excellent job in brightening up the darkness and neutralizing the blue / purple tinge under eye. For few people this might be just enough and they can apply foundation over it to conceal the peachy-ness. But I like going one step ahead by adding a concealer over it.

Does it creases? Yes, as much as I wanted to say no, but the truth is that all the concealers/ correctors in the world do crease. It just matter of time they can survive without creasing. An average product with crease early and a good product will take some more time to crease. Coming back to this particular product, it creases on me after about 6-7 hr, that makes it extremely effective product.  The creasing also depends upon the amount of moisturizer you use before applying it and the concealer you use after this product. Setting it with a powder is the key. ( will discuss this further in an upcoming tutorial).

The overall effect looks like a well rested, bright eyes.

Cons

Price and availability. But if you have darkness like mine, trust me, nothing is better than this product, I have tried so many concealers but this is worth investing in.

Last words

All I can say is I will repurchase this product until I die or I find something which can beat its results (or they stop manufacturing it :P ).

Product Rave - H2O + Sea Results Overnight Skin Perfecting Peel

Hi,

This product was my first face-off with Glycolic and Salicylic Acids. And I guess by now everyone might have understood that I love both of these acids. This product is the reason why I am such a huge fan of both.

Three years back my skin wasn't any close to what it is now. It was unevenly pigmented, had major open pores, blackheads, whiteheads and it was dry, flaky and scaly.  I had to get facials every month. But when I moved to States this luxury was not possible. I started hunting products which could help me with my problem. I came across H2O plus peel.

My initial reaction was not pleasing, as it tingled my skin, and I never found any change in my skin the next morning. But because of its price tag I thought I must finish the product rather than shelving it. That's the best decision I had made for my skin ever. The given quantity lasted me about 7-8 months and when my first bottle got over then I realized what wonders it did for my skin.

In the period of 7-8 months my open pores diminished, blackheads reduced, texture of skin became better, whiteheads reduced and my skin had a glow. And most importantly I survived these months without a proper salon facial (I did treat my skin to at home facials).

So coming onto what is so good about this product.

Color, Consistency, Texture and Fragrance: It is transparent, light-weight gel like formula with running consistency. It feels a bit sticky but is well absorbed by the skin, quickly. It feels smooth after it gets absorbed. It has a mild fragrance which is not irritating and disappears in a while.

Packaging: I would give a 10 on 10 for packaging. Sleek cubical transparent outer covering with silver colored tube container inside. A small nozzle with white pump on top. Blue colored inscription. Looks very chic.    

 

Application: Apply half to one pump of the product on the clean face and neck at night after face wash and before moisturizer. Take caution around eyes. When it dries up in few minutes apply moisturizer.

Effectiveness: In one week, skin becomes smoother and texture starts improving. In a period of time it will surely clear of acne, blackheads, whiteheads and open pores. It lightens the dark spots and unevenness of the skin.

Suitable For : All skin types. It is very mild and gentle product. even people with sensitive skin can use this.

My last words: Don’t expect miracles overnight, this product works, but if you have very troubled skin, it will take time to show results. It took me 7-8 months to get a little better skin. After completing first bottle I bought a second one, but simultaneously migrated to a higher concentration of Glycolic acids which made major difference in my skin texture.

If people are scared of using glycolic this is a best way to introduce it in your routine. If price is not a concern and you want to steer clear from cheaper pharmacy alternatives, this is for great product. But, Are their cheaper alternatives – Yes, which work equally good or should I say even better that this. A must have for me? -  No, I even trust my pharmacy available products which are don’t burn a hole in my pocket. Do I love this product? I certainly do , I wish the pharmacy brands had a texture like this.

I tried Rimmel Fix primer for the first time three years back. I wanted to buy a primer for smoothing my skin so that foundation could go on better. And Yes, I had also fallen into the bandwagon of using a primer.

Consistency: 

Smooth, Silky, Light weight, Creamy consistency and the same time it is liquidy enough for easy application.

Fragrance: 

Yeah it has some slight floral kind of smell. Although it’s not over powering and it disappears in some time but still it has a slight fragrance (usually all face products from Rimmel have a fragrance).

Application Technique: 
After I moisturize my skin, I apply pea size amount of this primer with my fingers. A damp brush can also be used. And blend it well into skin. Let it sit for another minute so it gets settled.

Effectiveness:

• Orange color blend flawlessly in my skin without leaving any colored cast. It brightens up my face to an extent but on itself it is hardly noticeable.
• It smoothes out the skin. My skin feels silky and velvety after it completely dries off.
• Evens out skin texture and allow foundation to go on smoothly.
• Pore size is somewhat improves but nothing major.
• It controls oil on and around my nose (although my skin doesn’t gets super oily) and helps my foundation to stay for longer.
• I apply it on my lower eyelids too so my concealer goes on way better than just only moisturized skin.

Pros:

• Light weight,
• Smoothes out skin,
• Gives Silky texture to skin,
• Adds on to foundations lasting power,
• Blends well

Cons:

• Orange colored – can be an issue for fair skin.
• Pores filling properties, it works to an extent but won’t make much of difference for large open pores.

Final words:

For me it is an above average product, and esp. for that price.

I don’t normally wear a primer underneath a foundations until it is quite humid or I need a flawless application of makeup or I just need to wear makeup for more that 5-6 hrs.  I really like this product for doing that. It doesn't let my foundation to oil up in humid weather. It smooths my skin adding a slight bit of brightness and gives me a flawless foundation application. As far as reducing pore size is concerned, it doesn't make much of a difference.  My skin holds onto foundation much better with this primer and it can stay for an extended period of time.

Few people may not like the color aspect of this primer, for fair ladies, it might leave an orange cast behind. As for duskier skin, it will help in brightening up the face.

I have tried Loreal and Oriflamme products but compared to them the smoothness aspect of this primer is better. I am a huge fan of Smashbox Photo finish primer which is a clear gel like consistency. It feels way smoother and fills in pores way better than Rimmel but price tag plays a major role for me. But my all time favorite primer is from Benefit which really fills in pores.

Chanel Rouge Coco Shine #60 Antigone - Product Rave

Chanel Rouge Coco Shine #60 Antigone is a shade from Rouge Coco Shine Lipstick range.

"ROUGE COCO SHINE Hydrating Sheer Lipshine provides lasting moisturizing shine in a water-light texture. The formula glides on for easy application, and a unique HYDRATENDRE complex hydrates and softens lips, giving them a healthier and fuller appearance. Available in a complete range of shades, from delicate beiges to dazzling berries, with a hint of shimmer to enhance a glossy finish."

Shade : Blue/ red Raspberry Pink Color, with finely milled golden and pink shimmer which get infused and gives a very subtle shimmer. This is  " My Lips, But Better" shade. Its one of the darkest shade available in this range. And probably the best shade for South east Asian skin tone.

Finish & Texture:  Its a perfect hybrid between a lipstick, lip gloss and a lip balm. Glossy finish with luscious juicy sheen. Something similar to Revlon Lip Butter. But I feel Revlon is a heavy formula than these. Chanel has a very light formula, doesn't feels sticky or heavy. Very moisturizing formula. It is very good for dry lips like mine and the best way to wear very subtle shimmer on them. 

Pigmentation & Staying Power: Its a sheer lipstick, when swatched once it looks more like a lip gloss.But coverage is build-able. Staying power is not long either. I wear upto an hour but feathers out into a very pretty stain. But I don't mind reapplying it. This is not for pigmented lips. If you want coverage, dont opt for these. 

Price : $ 32- 34 

For me this is the epitome of Lipsticks. I just love the color, the shimmer, the formula and nothing absolutely nothing beats it. It is very versatile lipstick, can be worn with absolutely everything and all types of makeup. Can be worn with dark smokey eye to day wear - Absolutely everything. 

Only downfall for me is the staying power, but I don't mind re-applying it. People with pigmented lips might not find it very appealing.

Lip Stains - Product Rave

Hi Ladies,

This is quick review over Lip Stains as a product category .

Product - Lip Stains, colored marker pen like product for lips. 

Features - Plastic marker like body, Felt tip pen, Liquidy ink like formula, Dries up quickly,Very light in texture. long lasting formula, not hydrating at all , rather a bit drying.

Coverage - Sheer but build-able. You have apply about 4-5 coats to get a good coverage. Can be a bit streaky.

With Balm

Staying power - Whole day or even more.

Companies which offer Lip Stains - Revlon, Loreal, Covergirl, Palladio (few ranges are not yet launched in    India). Max Factor (India).

Price - Generally between 500 to 800 INR.

Application Technique - Shake the pen before use. Apply starting from outer corners of the lips  and bring it inwards, flatten the tip and use for easier application (don't use from  point of the felt tip , rather use complete length to avoid streaky marks). Rub it with finger to even out the color. Usually comes out brighter on lower lip. Apply lip balm immediately after use to prevent dryness.

Cons - Its better for well nourished hydrated lips, Exfoliate and moisturize well before use. Dry skin of lips can make it look very patchy and uneven. Can be a bit drying in texture.The product can dry out like a sketch pen, you need to shake it vigorously before use. Limited availability.

Side Note - I like to use lip stains below a lipstick (esp if i wear a pink color,or n*de shade). when the lipstick fades and I don't have time to touch up, At least I don't land up with bare lips I still have a tint on.
