Neons are the "in" thing currently. Be it clothes, accessorize or shoes. So why not try neon lip colors..

Maybelline recently launched their BOLD MATTE range. This range consist five of the brightest, the neon-iest colors you have ever seen in drugstore brands.

Packaging :

It comes in a cuboid packaging, pretty standard Color Sensational shape. The new product is covered with a plastic cover which has all the lettering like name of product and list of ingredients etc. when the plastic film is removed the plastic cap comes out clean without any lettering. The only places where the name of product is mentioned is at the base and the silver case of the lipstick bullet. The cap is pretty strawberry pinkish red colored and is slightly translucent plastic. The the holder and base of bullet is metallic silver. The base is flat and square, the bullet stands firmly on the base. The cap fits in perfectly without any chances of getting loose in the handbag. Maybelline lipstick have pretty standard lipstick casing in most of its Color Sensational range.

Price :  Rs 375 for 3.9g

Product:

Fragrance: There is no particular fragrance in the product. It has slightest fragrance of alcohol, which is not even noticeable at the time of application. There is no taste in the product as well.This is a plus point.

Color and Coverage: The most striking feature of this range are the colors. Maybelline is launched in 5 Bold Matte shades. The one I got as sample is MAT 2. This is a bright neon (to an extend) coral color. This shade is a dare to wear type of color. this extremely bright and vibrant (probably more than what is looks in the pick). This color is a pure coral color. It looks brighter more neon-ish in dimmer lights like indors and looks more paler in natural sunlight.

For this particular shade MAT2 the coverage is medium but is build-able. It takes 2 -3 coats to get full pigmentation. I find it a little difficult to get an even application of the color. Well in the hand swatch it comes out very even but on lips it gets a little patchy, but I use a brush to even it out. The Medium coverage here is good for this kind of colors as you can control the color strength (but why would anyone buy a bold neon shade if they want to wear it paler??  But just as perspective)

Formula,Texture and Finish: The formula of these are moisturizing, lightweight and comfortable. I have extremely dry lips that's why matte lipstick aren't my best friends, but this does not dry my lips at all on the contrary these are hydrating. Well that brings me to a con - it is not a Matte lipstick. It is a semi - matte finish. A slight shine is clearly visible on application. It does not settles into fine lines, but goes on a little uneven on application.

Staying Power: It has a decent staying power about 4-5 hrs. After that it looses its intensity and a reapplication is needed. Eating food and sipping through a cup also takes away from the intensity. It fades into a pretty coral colored lipstain which only goes when you intentionally remove it.

A suggestion for application: 

With these kind of bold and bright colors a precise application is very necessary. Either use a lip brush or a lip liner to line the lips first and then fill in using a bullet. It is very unforgiving shade so you should avoid a messy application.

Pros:

• Moisturizing and Light-Weight Formula,
• Fragrance Free,
• Wearable Neon Bright Bold Color - Mostly looks neon-ish in indoor lighting, 
• Medium to Build-able coverage, intensity of control can be controlled,
• Decent Staying power of 4-5 hrs,
• Does not settles into fine lines.

Cons:

• Needs 2-3 coats for full Bold application,
• Non - Matte ( semi-Matte, can be a pro for people with dry lips like mine),
• Gives slight uneven application on lips but nothing that a lip brush can't tackle. 

My Suggestion as a Consumer:

These are not Matte shades so why are being they projected as ? Faulty marketing !

Last Words:
The minute I swatched it, this lipstick made to my current top favorite lipsticks . I am going gaga for this liptick and esp for its price and COLOR. I just love this shade ... so do YOU have it in you to go Neon??

Well this was the most daunting task .. I am a big lipstick person , I have about 45-50 lip products (including lipsticks, liners and glosses) .. and to choose just 5 was hell lot of work for me ..
I decided to categorize my lipsticks according to few criteria and choose one or two lipsticks for each.

Criteria I decided were :

• Pigmentation,
• Texture,
• Staying Power,
• Versatile Color,
• Fresh in the Kit.

Mac Capricious Lipstick - Swatches and Review

This is a quick review for Mac Lipstick.

• Mac Capricious Lipstick is Rose Plum color with very subtle golden shimmer. Shimmer adds to the warmth of the slightly cool undertone of the lipstick shade.
• Its a universally flattering shade. It looks pretty on all skin tones.
• It has a Mac's signature vanilla scent.
• This is a Lustre Finish - Slightly sheer with wet look. 
• Staying power is a bit low as compared to darker shades. This one stays for about three hours. And then wears off without leaving any tint or shimmer behind. 
• Its a non-drying formula, and is comfortable to wear.

Product Review : Maybelline Color Sensational High Shine Lip Glosses, 30 One Shine Day

Maybelline have recently launched the Color Sensational High Shine Lip Gloss. The color that was sent to me is Shade No. 30 – One Shine Day.

What Maybelline Says about it :

• Lavish lips with a molten hot glaze
• More Vibrant Color from pure liquid pigments
• Cleaner Shine from our 100% wax-free gloss
• Creamier feel from nourishing honey nectar
• Now gloss goes gutsy in 8 arresting shades

Price: INR 350 for 5ml

Packaging: Clear glass cubical tube with a silver cap. It has a double container type of packaging. There is no lettering on the bottle other than the safety plastic seal it came with and on the bottom on the tube. The silver cap is attached with a bent doe-foot applicator. The inside of the tube is narrow, this removes the excess product from the applicator and you get the right amount of product to apply.

Product: Creamy, Opaque and Shimmery formula. Has a sweet bubble gum kind of fragrance. Shimmer is finely milled which imparts a high shine glossy finish. Formula is creamy but it is neither sticky nor too thick.

My experience with Maybelline Color Sensational High Shine Lip Glosses, 30 One Shine Day: 

• Color: The color, One Shine Day, is very pretty medium pink with slight coral undertone. This color will look good on all the skin tones; it’s every day wear type of color. It can be very good as an office wear shade, as the shimmer is not very evident in it and the color is not overpowering at all.
• Texture: The texture is creamy and is hydrating. It does not settle in the lines or accentuates any dry areas. Because of the high shine it imparts a fuller lip look.
• Pigmentation: The pigmentation of the product is what wowed me. For the price, the pigmentation is quite incredible. It is a solid opaque color. 
• Staying Power: It stays for around 2-2.5 hrs on my lips with a liner underneath. On its own it stays for about 1.5-2 hours if I don’t eat anything.

Things I don’t like about it:

After the color wears off, the shimmer particles stay behind and can even transfer around lips. 

Last words:

This color is a safe bet for most skin tones. If you don’t like experimenting with colors but you want to try a nice high shine lip gloss then this shade is for you. I am looking forward to try few more shade from the range.

Product Review - Revlon Lip Butter In Candy Apple

Hello Friends,

I was never into lip products and even if I wore, I always played safe with muted pinks and browns. After a long time, I wanted to try a muted red just for the heck of it and finally picked up the Revlon Lip butter in the shade candy apple.

These lip butters come in a rectangular bullet pack with plastic cap. The cap is colored to indicate the lip color’s shade. I found the bullet too tight to open. So this ensures its safety during travel.

This shade is sheer glossy red color which is buildable i.e., you need not worry as the loudness of the color can be built upon as per your wish. I loved the finish of it. I feel that such lipsticks give an immediate fresh look to the face. I tried it on with a red lip pencil beneath and though the finish was good, I found it too loud for my tastes.  The gloss finish and the sheer red color make it perfect for day time as well. I am in love with this color as it looks extremely flattering on my medium complexion.

The staying power is not impressive as it stays only for 2-3 hours on my lips without any snacks in between. After 3 hours the glossiness fades and all that is left is a light red tint which again disappears completely in another hour or so.

The lip butter is very moisturizing and hydrating as Revlon claims and applies very evenly. But when it wears out, the lips are back to their old glory (dry in my case).

Though it is priced at Rs.600/- which may sound a little costly for lip butter, I am definitely repurchasing it. Chennai’s hot climate is the only thing that is stopping me from buying a spare one.

Product Review - NYX Mega Shine Lip Gloss in Lollipop 111

Continuing with my series in NYX Mega Shine Lip Gloss, my next lip gloss is Lollipop. Fun color as is the name.

Color : Orange with silver shimmer. NYX  has made its mark in the lip gloss category. Lollipop is one another color which speaks quality. Its a very pretty semi opaque orange color. 

This comes out a little coral on my lips. My lips are very pink/ red, It can actually be a taboo at times. The colors like this don't come out true to its color. But this doesn't takes away from the beauty of this color. 

Shimmer is finely milled and infuses with lips, doesn't looks chunky and glittery. 

It color looks pretty on any skin tone who loves to wear orange color.

Product Review - NYX Mega Shine Lip Gloss - Gold Pink

Couple of days back I wrote a post about NYX Mega Shine Lip Gloss in Natural. This post is an extension of that article. Here I am sharing a second color in that same brand - GOLD PINK 131.

Color : 

Very soft pink with slight blue undertone and finely milled golden shimmer. I have medium tan olive skin (NC 40-42), on me it looks like a soft baby pink color if worn alone or with a n*de lipstick. The shimmer is very finely milled. One can notice the shine but not the sparkle. 

This color almost suits all skin complexions On fairer complexion this color will look very pretty as more pink will show up. On duskier skin tones the golden sparkle will add more sheen to the lips.
