Review & Swatches - Maybelline BOLD MATTE by Color Sensational LipColor in MAT2

Neons are the "in" thing currently. Be it clothes, accessorize or shoes. So why not try neon lip colors..

Maybelline recently launched their BOLD MATTE range. This range consist five of the brightest, the neon-iest colors you have ever seen in drugstore brands.

Ingredients:

Packaging :

It comes in a cuboid packaging, pretty standard Color Sensational shape. The new product is covered with a plastic cover which has all the lettering like name of product and list of ingredients etc. when the plastic film is removed the plastic cap comes out clean without any lettering. The only places where the name of product is mentioned is at the base and the silver case of the lipstick bullet. The cap is pretty strawberry pinkish red colored and is slightly translucent plastic. The the holder and base of bullet is metallic silver. The base is flat and square, the bullet stands firmly on the base. The cap fits in perfectly without any chances of getting loose in the handbag. Maybelline lipstick have pretty standard lipstick casing in most of its Color Sensational range.

Product:

Fragrance: There is no particular fragrance in the product. It has slightest fragrance of alcohol, which is not even noticeable at the time of application. There is no taste in the product as well.This is a plus point.

Color and Coverage: The most striking feature of this range are the colors. Maybelline is launched in 5 Bold Matte shades. The one I got as sample is MAT 2. This is a bright neon (to an extend) coral color. This shade is a dare to wear type of color. this extremely bright and vibrant (probably more than what is looks in the pick). This color is a pure coral color. It looks brighter more neon-ish in dimmer lights like indors and looks more paler in natural sunlight.

For this particular shade MAT2 the coverage is medium but is build-able. It takes 2 -3 coats to get full pigmentation. I find it a little difficult to get an even application of the color. Well in the hand swatch it comes out very even but on lips it gets a little patchy, but I use a brush to even it out. The Medium coverage here is good for this kind of colors as you can control the color strength (but why would anyone buy a bold neon shade if they want to wear it paler??  But just as perspective)

Formula,Texture and Finish: The formula of these are moisturizing, lightweight and comfortable. I have extremely dry lips that's why matte lipstick aren't my best friends, but this does not dry my lips at all on the contrary these are hydrating. Well that brings me to a con - it is not a Matte lipstick. It is a semi - matte finish. A slight shine is clearly visible on application. It does not settles into fine lines, but goes on a little uneven on application.

Staying Power: It has a decent staying power about 4-5 hrs. After that it looses its intensity and a reapplication is needed. Eating food and sipping through a cup also takes away from the intensity. It fades into a pretty coral colored lipstain which only goes when you intentionally remove it.

A suggestion for application: 

With these kind of bold and bright colors a precise application is very necessary. Either use a lip brush or a lip liner to line the lips first and then fill in using a bullet. It is very unforgiving shade so you should avoid a messy application.

Pros:

• Moisturizing and Light-Weight Formula,
• Fragrance Free,
• Wearable Neon Bright Bold Color - Mostly looks neon-ish in indoor lighting, 
• Medium to Build-able coverage, intensity of control can be controlled,
• Decent Staying power of 4-5 hrs,
• Does not settles into fine lines.

Cons:

• Needs 2-3 coats for full Bold application,
• Non - Matte ( semi-Matte, can be a pro for people with dry lips like mine),
• Gives slight uneven application on lips but nothing that a lip brush can't tackle. 

My Suggestion as a Consumer:

These are not Matte shades so why are being they projected as ? Faulty marketing !

Last Words:
The minute I swatched it, this lipstick made to my current top favorite lipsticks . I am going gaga for this liptick and esp for its price and COLOR. I just love this shade ... so do YOU have it in you to go Neon??
